History

The origins of LORE can be traced back to the Swedish national election campaign of 2002 when the department of political science at the University of Gothenburg ran an internet based election campaign panel. Between 2002 and 2010 a large number of surveys based on samples of self-recruited respondents, mostly in connection to the general elections and European Parliament elections, where conducted.

Research on opinion and democracy at the University of Gothenburg stretches back to the 1950’s. However, the need for a complement to the traditional surveys grew stronger by time. In the year 2010, the research network MOD received important funding from the University of Gothenburg, which led to the formal establishment of LORE and the Citizen Panel. In 2016 LORE became a part of the SOM Institute (www.som.gu.se) at the University of Gothenburg.
